Alltech feed mills in Germany and Finland become first in their countries to achieve ASC Feed Standard certification

Alltech Coppens in Nettetal, Germany, and Alltech Fennoaqua in Raisio, Finland, have become the first feed mills in their respective countries to achieve certification under the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Feed Standard, marking a significant step forward for transparency and sustainability in European aquaculture.

“Congratulations to both Alltech Coppens and Alltech Fennoaqua for achieving ASC Feed Certification,” said Aisla Jones, Feed Engagement and UK Markets Manager at ASC. “Embedding responsibility at the start of the supply chain is essential to driving meaningful industry change.”

The ASC Feed Standard is the first global certification to establish binding requirements for all feed ingredients, including fishmeal, fish oil and plant-based inputs such as soy, palm oil and wheat. Certified companies must demonstrate responsible sourcing and full traceability across their supply chains.

During the assessment process, both mills provided extensive documentation covering raw material sourcing, supplier verification, labour and occupational safety safeguards, as well as concrete measures to reduce energy consumption, emissions, water use and waste.

“This represents a major milestone in our sustainability journey,” said Ronald Faber of Alltech. “ASC certification demands rigorous preparation and collaboration, but it has strengthened transparency and long-term responsibility throughout our operations.”

The ASC Feed Standard complements the ASC Farm Standard by ensuring that aquaculture feed and its ingredients are produced responsibly across the entire supply chain. From October 31, 2025, ASC-certified farms will be required to use feed sourced from ASC-certified feed mills.

“There is clear global demand for seafood products that can demonstrate sustainable and responsible production through recognised standards,” said Susanna Airaksinen, Development Manager at Alltech Fennoaqua. “This certification ensures we can continue supporting ASC-certified farms under the new requirements.”
